A rare and impressive Arts & Crafts oak plan chest beautifully adapted into a large coffee table, featuring three original drawers, attractive brass handles and huge storage capacity. Dating from approximately 1900–1930, this substantial and extremely heavy piece has been professionally repolished in a warm chestnut finish and can work beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
This is an outstanding and very rare Arts & Crafts oak plan chest that has been cleverly adapted into a substantial coffee table. Beautifully finished in a warm chestnut colour, the piece has been repolished throughout, including the back, allowing it to sit comfortably in the centre of a room. It features three large original drawers providing an exceptional amount of useful storage, complemented by attractive brass handles and original name plates. We date this impressive piece to approximately 1900–1930, making it a wonderful example of early 20th-century Arts & Crafts furniture. Extremely solid and heavy, this is a substantial piece that requires two people to move. Its distinctive character and practical design would suit both traditional and contemporary interiors. Dimensions are approximately 21 inches high, 51 inches wide and 41 inches deep, with internal drawer dimensions of approximately 3 inches high, 49 inches wide and 36 inches deep.
