This very rare antique oak 9 drawer plan chest is an exceptional Arts & Crafts piece, ideal for artists, architects, designers and collectors. Made entirely from oak and recently repolished, it features nine spacious drawers arranged across three sections, with original brass handles and name plates. Manufactured by Abess and dating from approximately 1920–1940, this unusually large and substantial chest offers excellent storage and timeless character.
This is a very rare and impressive antique oak 9 drawer plan chest, ideal for artists, architects, designers, collectors or anyone looking for a substantial piece of Arts & Crafts furniture. In our opinion, this is one of the finest examples of its type, with the chest made entirely from oak and recently repolished to an excellent standard. The chest dismantles into three sections, with three spacious drawers in each section. Each drawer features beautiful original brass handles and name plates and opens smoothly. The chest was manufactured by Abess, with the maker’s name stamped inside one of the drawers, and we date it between 1920 and 1940.
This is an exceptionally rare model, being slightly larger than many similar plan chests available today. It is a substantial and extremely heavy piece, even when the drawers are removed, and would make a striking addition to an Arts & Crafts, traditional or contemporary interior. The generous drawers provide excellent storage and make the chest suitable for a wide range of uses beyond its original purpose.
The dimensions are approximately: Height 36″, with an internal drawer height of 2.5″; Width 48″, with an internal width of approximately 42″; Depth 36″, with an internal depth of approximately 31″.
